When we first started to gather artisans and artists to participate in our first event we thought- well, we'll through the idea up there and see if it sticks! And it did stick. We received an abundance of wonderful comments for the most part centered around the need to get more people into Washington County because it has so much to offer.
We also learned that there is a lot more organizing that needs to be done and it will take more than the three or four months we had to get artisan's and artist's signed up to give it a try.
There is no time for sitting back and feeling relieved that it has happened and that most people seemed to have enjoyed their visits to the sites. There's a lot of work to be done. A lot of suggestions to be mulled over and some to put into place. Are we up to the challenge? You bet! We are all committed to helping not only our own creative venture succeed but to help ALL the Washington County's Artisans and Artists find a way to promote their special craft. These people are extremely talented and they hugely deserve that talent to be seen and appreciated by as many people as possible.
On Thursday, August 16tth we are holding an organizational meeting to review how this first event went. It will be held at Whiting Studio, 105 Holmes Road in North Argyle NY at 7:00pm. Any artisan or artist who would like to meet with us and provide their suggestions or feedback is welcome to attend or you can send your comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How does one gauge success of an event? Is it the number of people who walk through your venue during an event? Is it the number of Sales you might be lucky enough to make? Or maybe it's the number of visitors who you hear say "WOW!" as they look over your wares.
It is all of these and more! It's the person who stands beside you and tells you they are SO Happy that they came through your door. It's the lady who extends her hand as she's getting ready to leave and states that she hopes we have the event next year because they have had a wonderful time meeting so many talented artisans and artists. It's the people from out of the area who tell you that they never realized how beautiful this county is and that, even though they did get a little lost traveling the back roads, they loved every minute of it.
That's how you gauge success and in saying that, I think we had a very successful first year of the Artisan Trails in Washington County. Of course- if you care to differ with me you are more than welcome to provide your feedback because, well, we are all just a little prejudice......
All of the participants in this first Artisan Trails in Washington County are getting prepared to welcome visitors to our sites.
The map is perfected with the expert help from Judith Ellers, A surprise pre-event newspaper interview has been finalized by Kris Gregson Moss and about to take place and the participating artisans and artists have been going forward with their promotion of their involvement in this inaugural event
We want to make sure that people download the maps to assure they find each site. Most people will rely on GPS to locate the artisan sites, however, the cell phone coverage in Washington County can be spotty. Downloading an image or printing a paper copy of the map is the safest way to insure visitors find their destinations.
Enjoy meeting these wonderful creators of Crafts, Products and Art, they are the heartbeat of Washington County.
